John B. Humphries

John is based out of the Atlanta office and has worked exclusively with State Insurance Departments for the past twenty-five years as a consultant on examinations of Managed Care Organizations, Life and Accident companies, Property & Casualty companies, as well as on numerous other regulatory projects covering both financial and market conduct issues. Because John’s work is focused on the needs of regulators, he understands the regulatory process and is a member of the NAIC Accreditation Review Team.

John has been instrumental in developing a number of techniques to harness the power of computer audit to solve market conduct issues such as analysis of claim timeliness and identification of race based premiums. His recent work on issues related to sales of life insurance products to service members has received national visibility ultimately leading to over $70 million in remediation for service members, and the passage of a model regulation to protect service members nationwide.

John has worked directly with life and health analysts at the Georgia Department of Insurance, since 1996, to provide actuarial and general regulatory support during the review of annual statements. His work includes review of actuarial opinions and memorandums, reinsurance, RBC, feasibility and financial projections, and other work as needed to understand current issues. John has been actively involved in an NAIC working group formed to revise sampling guidance in the NAIC Financial Condition Examiners Handbook. He has also written an articles for the Examiner Magazine related to getting the full value from the actuary during examinations, premium stabilization programs under ACA, and the use of sampling.

Prior to joining RRC, John served as Managing Partner for AGI Services.

John earned a Master’s degree in Actuarial Science from Georgia State University, a Masters of Business Administration from the University of West Florida, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Carolina. He is currently serving in his second term on the Society of Financial Examiners Board of Governors.
